Following Osho’s death on January 19, 1990, the leadership of the movement transitioned to an inner council of long-term disciples established to manage the ashram in Pune and the intellectual property of his discourses .

The Pune ashram underwent extensive architectural remodeling, rebranding itself as the Osho International Meditation Resort, adopting contemporary wellness, spa, and hospitality models rather than traditional monastic or commune paradigms .

The Zurich-based Osho International Foundation (OIF) asserted centralized copyright and trademark ownership over Osho’s written works, audio recordings, and name.

The Digital Discourse Archives

A primary focus of the post-1990 movement became the comprehensive preservation and digital dissemination of Osho’s spoken-word record. Today, two major digital archives preserve this corpus:

  • OSHO.com (Osho International): The official multimedia platform featuring digital book catalogs, OSHO Online Library, iOS/Android apps, and video streaming of historical discourses.
  • Osho World (oshoworld.com): An extensive open-access archive based in New Delhi, hosting thousands of hours of unedited MP3 discourse audio in Hindi and English, original magazine archives, and photographic records.
My message is not a doctrine, not a philosophy. My message is a certain alchemy, a science of transformation. Those who are willing to disappear as they are, and to be reborn into something so new that they cannot even imagine it right now – only those few courageous people will be ready to listen.

Intellectual Property and Schisms

During the 2000s and 2010s, significant legal controversies erupted between the OIF board in Switzerland and independent sannyasins worldwide who contested the commercialization and trademarking of the word "Osho" .

In the United States, the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) in 2009 ruled against OIF's exclusive trademark claim to the term "Osho," finding that the name had become generic for the spiritual movement and teachings rather than a proprietary brand identifier.

Legal challenges over Osho’s purported will and trust documents continued across Indian and European civil courts into the 2020s.

Today, the movement operates as a decentralized network of independent meditation centers alongside the central Pune resort, with discourse publishing translated into dozens of languages across global publishing houses.
